HURRICANE SEASON & OUR EVACUATION POLICY
During Hurricane season, for the safety of our customers’ pets and for the safety of our own employees, Privileged Pets would like to remind everyone of our Hurricane Evacuation Policy:
If a hurricane is projected to make a possible landfall in the vicinity of the Houston/Galveston area (i.e., if Houston/Galveston is within the projected path or “cone”), all Privileged Pets personnel and all customers’ dogs will be evacuated at least 2 days prior to the expected landfall. This will require each pet owner or their designated emergency contact person to pick up their pet(s) from our facility at least 2 days prior to the expected landfall. For category 1 or category 2 hurricanes, Privileged Pets will make a decision on evacuation following the advice of local authorities, after which we will contact our customers or their designated emergency contacts.
We feel that it is critically important that our customers understand that Privileged Pets is not a suitable emergency shelter for pets or humans in case of a hurricane event. Like many smaller commercial buildings, our structure is not wind-rated to withstand a hurricane or tornadic winds generated by category 1 or category 2 hurricanes. As a result, complete evacuation is the only reasonable policy in case of a significant hurricane event.
Everyone understands that a hurricane event (or even a “close call”) creates tremendous anxiety. It is never easy….and many decisions are very difficult. However, we must be prepared to act quickly and intelligently in accordance with well-designed policies and procedures. We sincerely hope that our customers understand that the singular purpose of this policy is to protect your pets and our employees. Please inform your emergency contact of their responsibility for your pet each time you board at Privileged Pets.
Thank you!
